Red Hill Victoria PORT PHILLIP ESTATE WINERY by Woodmarsh Architects
I recently had the good fortune to catch up with friends at the Port Phillip Estate winery in Red Hill designed by multi award winning design practice Woodmarsh. This dramatic building sits on a spectacular, undulating site overlooking vineyards, Westernport bay and Bass Strait. The building appears to spiraling out of the ground and slowly rising to form the eastern wall of the structure. This abstract, sculptural form conceals everything behind a barn like timer door which automatically opens when you approach.
The main entry punctures the heavy earth wall to reveal a striking vista across the coastal landscape. Contained between the undulating earth walls and overarching timber-lined ceiling, a large restaurant and cellar door take full advantage of this view.
