a shipyard no longer

Built on top of a concrete crane-way on a former Amsterdam shipyard in the 1950’s the challenge for OTC design practice was to maximize floor space without making major changes to original concrete structure working within the concrete platforms load bearing capabilities. To minamize the weight an engineered slimline floor was used reducing the building weight by half allowing the build to evolve from the disused crane-way .
The result is a magnificent structure that hovers above the original concrete platform with no disconnect from the new office building that comfortably sits above giving the occupants incredible views of the river IJ and the old city of Amsterdam.
