Argentian Casa by Estudio BaBO

Having been formed in 2007 and with a team deriving from Buenos Aires, Barcelona and Oslo, Estudio BaBO have become known for the intellectual approach to their designs. One of their recent projects reveals this approach in a graceful family home in Buenos Aires. The house, reminiscent of a mid-century Bauhaus design is unwavering in neither its imposing lineal form nor its use of white-on-white. This intellectual approach to the project has produced a building of defined and highly logical proportions, with the result being a space that works to enclose the outside world with minimum effort. This has created a connection with the outside which is emphasised by the blanket use of white and further enhanced by the limited but beautifully detailed lineal timber references found in the house and on the ceiling of the outside areas. With a swathe of naked bulbs forming a focal point in the living area, and being devoid of art and objects the house, so complex in its creation yet so simple in appearance, is an excellent reminder of why South American design is creating so much global attention.
