Colour Stories

Any interior, whether it is large or small, grand or understated, needs to tell a story. A story of who people are, a story of where they’ve travelled or a story of what they’ve collected, it really doesn’t matter, as long as there is a story in there somewhere. Philip Gorrivan of New York is one man who can tell stories, and tell them well. His interiors are best known for their graceful mix of modern and traditional elements and notwithstanding the grace of his designs, it is his use of colour that I want to share as it is with that that Gorrivan tells the stories of his interiors. A purple felt clad dining table sits proudly atop a Rhode Island home in a rooftop dining room, a yellow wallpapered sitting room in a Toronto townhouse or a muted grey living area in New York – in all colour is used to tell the story of who the clients are and how they live their lives and it is this ability to use colour that makes Gorrivan one the true story tellers of interior design.
