DA – Which Dinosaur are you?

Louise Olsen

DA – How would you best describe Dinosaur Design’s style?

Dinosaur Designs style is best exemplified through the hand made nature of our pieces. In particular the organic shape and colours, resulting in bold and one of a kind pieces.

DA – What does “being creative,” mean to Dinosaur Designs?

Being creative to Dinosaur Designs means continuously pushing the boundaries and forever exploring the possibilities of design.

DA – Can you describe the time when you first realized that creating was something you absolutely had to do?

There isn’t one particular moment I can identify. Having grown up in a house of artists it was completely my way of life, I lived and breathed it.

DA – What kind of creative patterns, routines or rituals do you / Dinosaur Designs have?

My design process starts in the sketchbook. It then continues to modeling and sculpting in clay, followed by the shaping and refinement of each piece in the various materials we use.

DA – What are you trying to communicate with your art?

I like the relationship between very hand felt pieces working with very man made material and the relationship between colour and form.

DA – Which creative medium would Dinosaur Designs love to pursue but haven’t yet?

We’d like to explore with more varied types of metals such as copper and bronze.

DA – What’s the best advice you could give on how to be more creative?

Pursue the things you love. Surround yourself by the things, which inspire you.

DA How would you best describe your latest rug collection “The Studio Collection” with Designer Rugs?

We wanted to play with big planes of colour with this series and work from a really warm palette to a very cool blue palette. The successes of such experiments are evident in the deep red of ‘Glow’, to the cooler tones of ‘Moon’. Despite the striking individuality of each piece this collection works as a family, when you view the collection in its entirety you can see how each works together.
