Cracker Jack…. Jackson Clements Burrows

Keast Park Community Pavilion is the home of lawn bowls made famous in the indi Australian film Cracker Jack. The tired yet iconic lawn bowls community center was given the Jackson Clements Burrows treatment which is now a commanding piece architecture. Located on the Seaford foreshore in bay-side Victoria the project  integrates all facilities into a new community building encouraging park users to engage with the bowls club, as part of their daily experience of the site. The ground floor consists of a series of timber pods incorporating building which are separated by two large public deck areas. The street level spaces provide shade in summer and wind protection year round, as well as visual access between the Carrum Bowling Club and the park.  The undulating sculptural ridge-line is a play on the dune-cape topography of the foreshore and is reinforced by the application of vertical timber planks facades of the building. Materiality of the building and coastal landscape form has been selected from sustainable sources where possible, including plantation timber cladding and decking.
