a modern historic barn

This beautiful historic gambrel barn was partially destroyed in a fire. The owners commissioned Specht Hapman to reconstruct the barns exterior and to completely redesign the interior for use as a new home. The exterior incorporates traditional forms and materials in a way that respects the other historic buildings on the 8 acre site. Whist the radical reconstruction of the interior creates a free and open space that works as modern loft like space simple, modern and flooded with natural light. Polished concrete floors, exposed maple framing and custom joinery work perfectly together making the home warm, comfortable and elegant…. heaven !
