the World of Arts meets the World of Interiors
Megan Dicks and Nikki Finch of OTOMYS gallery are building a bridge between the World of Arts and the World of Interiors providing customers with boutique art house service and a collection of fine Limited Edition art. Now based in Melbourne, Sydney and Singapore, Otomys gallery is growing steadily, fitting out both Commercial and Residential projects with striking large format archival art. OMG SO much to LOVE ….
Below, Mark Tipple – Mark’s bond with the ocean has taken him around Australia, Indonesia, the Pacific Islands, and the length of North America’s West Coast to Alaska. The ocean is in his blood, his brother’s a marine biologist and his father was a nomadic surfer who, like the rest of the family, has always lived next to the ocean. Photography was a way to structure the random travel, to give his journeys a goal. It was a frustration with “stock-standard surf shots” that led to Escape – and, eventually, The Underwater Project.
Below – SOPHIA SZILAGYI Light shimmers, darkness settles, the sea opens its arms to swallow up the sky. Sophia Szilagyi’s imagery evokes the natural world and imbues it with an emotional resonance through the artist’s skilful manipulation of diametrically opposed elements. Light abuts dark, the dense almost claustrophobic space in some works contrast with open seas and vast skies that imply the infinite in others.
Below -Trevor Mein – There is so much our eyes don’t register because of the speed at which events unfold or because the objects in question are in a state of flux. A horse performing dressage appears as a flow of actions – a ripple of muscle, a flash of tail, a blur of limbs. Mein’s dressage photographs, in collaboration with artist and equestrian Susan Knight, break down the moment and capture its subliminal mood, giving us the elegant serif of the horse.
Below – HEIKE DAVIES – The ‘Portraits of Women’ collection of work combines elements of traditional portraiture with something that is more uncomfortable and raw. Some of the women are painted in a formal frontal perspective and challenge the viewer directly with their confrontational gaze. Others shy away, avoiding any connection. Many shut their eyes to escape the intrusion – evading questions and judgment yet somehow still managing to present themselves naked before you. Vulnerable, Defiant, Beautiful.
