Nth Fitzroy House… thinking big.
Located in the hip Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy is an extension to a semi-detached Edwardian home created by AM architects. This hot addition is formed out of a response to the existing building and the broader context of the heritage street-scape that makes no apology for being new which I just love. Working with a narrow site AM architects have created a serine scene of space through voids and living spaces which are flooded in natural light. The materials and new colours from the existing heritage portico are used internally and externally in the new addition. These common materials serve to bind the two parts together, reinforcing the idea that both old and new, so different in era and style, are borne of the same substance. The exposed polished concrete floors are warmed by quarter cut timber veneers set against crisp white walls and joinery. We love small spaces that think big.
