Aisle Of Difference

Finally a supermarket that doesn’t showcase drab grey floors and uninspiring graphics! Loblaws, located in Toronto Canada, bursts with vibrance and personality like no other supermarket on the planet.  Bright red and orange, derived from the brand’s corporate identity, covers every inch of the space with confidence.  Whilst the palette of finishes may seem constrained due to their requirement to be durable, it’s the large scaled super graphics and signage that really appeal to the eye. The graphics have been carefully considered and not one application has been adopted throughout.  Routed signage in concrete, exposed neon and stencilled letters are partly responsible for why the space is so visually appealing   Not only do they act as a clear way finding method for customers but they add a new layer of texture and interest. The deli and cheese sections in particular have been treated more like an upmarket providore than a typical local supermarket.  Full height glass cabinets display cheese wheels and dried meats hang within illuminated cabinets, but it doesn’t stop there.  The standard metal shelving has been clad to add warmth and the checkouts are minimalist and streamlined with a custom print covering the entire wall behind. Retail expert, Howard Saunders from Echochamber claims that “This brand new Loblaws in Toronto makes the design of the mighty Eataly look pedestrian and begs the question: is this the world’s best supermarket? Our answer is yes.”Loblaws claims to be about “great food” but we think they are also about inspiring design!
