The mountains of Petrópolis
The mountains of Petrópolis were chosen by a Carioca couple to spend their weekends and holidays with family and friends. Since the house would always be full it was necessary to create a home that could offer wellness and tranquility. The approach by Brazilian based Jacobsen Architects was to sculpt the land to integrate the architecture with the surrounding landscape, minimizing the overall visible scale of the house. The access to the house is through a paved pathway leading to a suspended volume. This creates a front porch with a stunning view of the rocky mountains in the background. The ground floor of the home contains the living and dining rooms, lavatory, pantry, four guest suites and a deck with the deck facing the pool and spa. The interior decoration captures resort living at its best with few, but precious handpicked furniture and objects. The sandstone exterior walls provide the natural element that allow the house to sit peacefully in such a majestic setting and the raw timber beams inside the home connect the interior to garden and beyond. I know … to die for…right?
