Making an entrance

We all love making an entrance and Emporia by Wingårdhs does just that. Located in Malmö Sweden the staggering diagonal entrance leads deep into the block. Inside, retail is organized around a three-story figure eight. Shops are grouped together around boldly coloured atrium’s, each with a different theme. Emporia’s interior challenges established shopping centre conventions. Its bold colours and bent sight lines break with the norm, as do the project’s size and ambition which have made it possible to do custom designs for everything from ceilings, floors, and storefronts to signage, ropes of hanging plants, furniture, and cast glass door handles. The design is wrought with extraordinary attention to detail, down to the leather-wrapped handrails and the colour of the saddle stitching on the custom built furniture. Emporia is loaded with light installations completing the full sensory experience that is rarely found is shopping centres. Just another reason to love the Swedes!
