It’s not often someone gets the chance to buy a place, gut it and turn it into their dream home. Even rarer still is the chance to buy five places surrounding each other, combine them and turn them into a super-apartment in the middle of Manhattan. However, that is exactly what one couple have done. Enlisting the talents of architectural designer Thomas Juul-Hansen and decorator Amy Lau, the clients have created an apartment that is the epitome of bespoke and luxury. Every fitting, every surface and every angle has been considered, thought out and approached with the due diligence that is rarely seen in a project. The showstopper is by far the main room with its soaring ceiling, stunning Lindsey Adelman chandelier and massive custom relief. The furniture for this room is mostly bespoke, including the incredible and organic looking piano that has pride of place in the corner. Throughout the house, the luxe and individuality continues into what could surely be called some of New York’s finest rooms. In essence, there is a not a lot of over-decoration in the house and yet my eyes are never left wanting and in an apartment that is so abundant in volume and light, the overall feeling is warm and inviting – such is the brilliance of the designers.
