Material Matters
Sometimes I love the finishes, other times I love the furniture. For this penthouse though it is all about the materials, because in a space that leans more toward the minimal than the over decorated, the materials count for everything (no matter how small). This penthouse was conceived through a partnership between the clients and the Rockwell Group, better known for their large hospitality work. Not ones to usually take on a residential project, the insistence of the client and the spectacular New York City location were enough to get them on board. Now, the materials: shagreen upholstered sofas, nickel tiles in the powder room, bronze consoles in the entry, gold tiles in the bathroom, parchment wall in the bedroom and Venetian plaster everywhere – the list of lush and luxurious materials is endless! What makes the materials truly special in this space however is not so much their value or rarity but the way in which they have been used, which in this case give the apartment so much nuance and character.
