Budapest “Spar”
Hungarian studio LAB5 architects recently completed a supermarket with a difference. An inspiring flagship store in Budapest for “Spar” that features a unique timber skeletal interior. The undulating forms of the interior are designed to guide shoppers to the back of the store. There is a short route for quick daily shopping and a long route for weekend buyers and all the forms in the interior are inspired by this flow of customers.
Shelves and counters forming rounded islands together, just as if they were standing at a market. The Dutch word “Spar” meaning pinewood inspired the idea of using timber materials in the overall detail and shelving. The timber and forms also helps to create a cosy atmosphere which is rarely found within supermarkets.
