Nostalgia

We’re not sure what could be more nostalgic than the setting of Old Joe’s, positioned shorefront at Cronulla is certain to bring back childhood memories. The clash of colours, patterns and finishes is visual music for the eyes!  Painted floors meet bare stripped-back boardwalk style timber and tessellated tiles dance around the milk bar.

The reproduction of vintage confectionery signs clad the walls with a mixture of bright old and new furniture that feels like it’s been there forever. The amazing pendants over the main bar are custom made from vintage beach chair straps!

With the clever eye of Sibella Court on board it’s no wonder everything looks as if it’s meant to be! Joe’s Milkbar was an institute to locals of South Sydney for decades right up until 1996 when Joe passed away. Court researched the local history of the area and used elements of the traditional Aussie milk bar to create the overall atmosphere of the space.

Court says “I delved into my own upbringing of beach culture in the 1970’s; striped umbrellas, washed out okanui boardies, tasseled terry toweling and ice cream from the milk bar at the end of a salty day meets the candy sorbet colours of Florida keys.”

Who would have thought painting the existing beams in a soft baby pink would have worked so brilliantly?  Court Obviously did and we agree, perfect choice!
