Design Matters the Melbourne International Design Festival
Hosted in Australia, Melbourne International Design Week Design Matters is a celebration of design excellence kicking off on April 1st 2014. It has been created to highlight the best of design here and overseas to nurture a strong design culture. Events will give everyone the opportunity to be inspired by the benefits of outstanding design for our lives and our economy
Design Matters will present a series of events in partnership with “agIdeas” and provide a platform to support and promote partners. One event that I must share with you is “Look Upstairs”.
Look Upstairs brings together the largest gathering of international design leaders ever seen in Australia from across 2D, 3D and digital disciplines, as a professional development resource for creative practitioners. 40 speakers from 19 nations, global leaders from across communication, product, industrial, advertising, digital, lighting, sound and the built environment will share their insights about practicing in a world where design is converging with business, society, science and technology. Above – One of Australia’s most celebrated industrial designers, Charles Wilson co-founded the Sydney-based Argo collective to develop experimental furniture and decorative objects.
Above – Alla Wolf-Tasker is the proprietor and culinary director of Lake House, the famed boutique hotel and restaurant in the ‘spa’ town of Daylesford, Victoria.
An icon in Australian regional dining, Alla opened Lake House more than 30 years ago and it has attracted acclamation and awards ever since.
Recent accolades include listings in Tatler’s Top 100 Hotels in the world.
