winter is coming … the snow house

Located at the base of the Kicking Horse ski resort in British Columbia, The Kicking Horse Residence by Bohlin Cywinski Jackson and Bohlin Grauman Miller Architects is an ideal modern home for an active family of five who lives for winter sport. The house provides direct access to the powder-covered base of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, while offering warmth and relaxation to its occupants inside.

The design of the Kicking Horse Residence is angular and modern, with the selected materials echo the surrounding terrain.  Both inside and out, natural wooden accents provide visual warmth and an earthy connection to the forests beyond.  The walls, ceilings and many of the furnishings are light, natural woods, while metal and darker wood accents cover the rest.  Outside, the fascia of Kicking Horse Residence is largely metal and glass, with exposed wooden beams holding the large, angled roof line of the private section of the home.
