More Than Merit

In a materialistic world it’s refreshing to see an eatery like Feast of Merit who donate the profits from their business into aid projects around the world. The name is extremely fitting, in Nagaland, in the north-east of India, if a community member comes into money it is tradition for the whole village to be invited to an enormous feed. Everyone shares in the new-found wealth. It’s called the Feast of Merit.

The interior elements are simple, stripped back and bare. Salvaged timber and metal have been donated and the supersized mural on the façade was done for free by a group of artists. We love how these humble finishes have been paired with new spindle-back chairs and timber tables.  A mismatch of lighting and hanging greenery add to the overall warmth of the space. With suppliers donating food and some staff donating their time, it’s inspirational to see such a sense of community in our own backyard.
