Kvadrat Bouroullec knit upholstery collection 2014
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have crafted a knitted upholstery collection for Kvadrat consisting of three tactile designs, which project a strong sense of volume and depth: Canal, Gravel and Moraine.
Designed to introduce a new understanding of textile material, all are constructed using a double jersey knit. In designing the collection, Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec focused on creating textiles that derive sensual surfaces from their internal structures. Consequently, during their development process they focused on exploring construction as opposed to ‘aesthetic statements’. All the textiles in the collection offer good multi-directional stretchability and comfort.
Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec: ‘Knitted structures open new upholstering horizons thanks to their stretch characteristics and padded surfaces’. The knitted front layer of the textiles is made from fine melange wool and polyester yarns, which combines dark and light fibres. This ensures that they have a sensuous touch and feature a rich play of warm, delicate and irregular colour nuances. The knitted back layer is made from unicoloured polyester yarns, in accent colours. These provide firmness and structure, as well as an eye-catching contrast with the wool.
