amongst the Dunes NZ

This stunning home, unlike the 1984 movie of the same title, is simple, well crafted and easily interpreted. Fearon Hay Architects have been bringing us some stunning architecture of late and Dune House is no exception. It is up for an award at the World Architecture Festival in Singapore in October later this year. The home is rectilinear in footprint with large expanses of glass. These are more an operable wall than simple window. These large apertures open the building to the courtyard, modest pools and the magnificent views of Omaha Beach beyond.

The background selection of materials is restrained and harmonious with polished concrete on the floor, linen look window treatments, pale rugs and leather sofas. These elements provide the orchestra for the high notes at the front of the stage – the island bench and long wall of mirrored brass! Talk about a hero element! This home feels solid, expertly crafted and well engineered. Expressing rather than disguising, the steel and opaque glass wall joins is a beautiful architectural detail around the pool. It beats with a comfortable rhythm – on both sides of the fence.
