Rancho Relaxo

Perhaps because of, or maybe in spite of, the fact that I grew up on the beach I have always been drawn to the countryside. Something about endless rolling hills and mountains makes me very happy. This white barn north of San Fransico by Turnbull Griffin Haelsoop also makes me very happy. It has large sofas for napping. It has large windows for viewing. It also has a lovely pool for swimming. Really, as far as country properties go I’m not sure there is much more you need!

Apart from those qualities, this house is also beautiful. Designed in the barn style that is common in the Chileno Valley, the house has beautiful proportions and occupies its site with grace and simplicity. Adding to this, the house is beyond sustainable with every sort of passive heating, cooling, insulation and solar panels. With simple and honest furniture throughout the house really does force you to relax and take in the surrounding views and landscape. The countryside for me is serene and quiet and this simple barn represents that in spades.
