Lofty Ambitions
If you’re going to live in a New York loft this this is definitely the way to do it. Amazing location: yes. Incredible ceilings: yes. Roof terrace: yes YES! Turett Collaborative Architects were given the brief to explore how to use the huge volume of the space and in doing so have explored the interplay between the private and public use areas and how these can be used to define areas within the house.
At one end TCA have create threes volumes that house two bedroom, two bathroom and the master ensuite. Cleverly, given the high ceilings, the designers have created on the roof of these volumes generous storage and two home offices. At the other end of the loft is the master bedroom and wardrobe. Again the roof has been utilised for storage.
Throughout, the loft has been furnished sparingly allowing the space and volumes speak for themselves (although the Lindsey Adelman light is a highlight!). Then of course there is the roof terrace with built-in kitchen and to-die-for views of downtown Manhattan and across the Hudson River. For New York City, I could certainly think of worse places to live!
