A Shared Vision

Two brothers, a shared dream and intuitive architects are to thank for this unique home…well, actually two homes. The brothers shared an expansive parcel of land in Tapalpa near the Pacific coast in Mexico and engaged Elías Rizo Arquitectos to design and build for them two homes that would work in tandem yet have their own personality at the same time.

Thankfully for the designers, the brothers agreed on the overall look for the homes so it was left to the spatial narratives to define each home and the way in which the two families would use each space. For one brother this meant a home that more insular and protected. For this, architects devised a design that focused around an open yard. The other brother opted for a purely rectilinear design that stretched into the landscape and was as open as possible to the landscape beyond.

Internally, each home is as comfortable and relaxed as it is textured and open. Indeed, the need to have the homes opening out into the surrounding properties was one of the key design briefs given at the beginning of the project. Elías Rizo achieved this with the use of movable windows and partition walls, which can be reconfigured to suit the needs of each room in any occasion.

The result of this unique shared vision is two incredible homes set in the lush Mexican countryside and frankly I wouldn’t mind knowing either brother to be able to spend some time in there!
