Mid Century Maxime
Maxime Jacquet, originally from Belgium, moved to the United States in 2008. He obtained his degree from University of Liege in Business, but always had a keen eye for design. It is Maxime’s fusion of high-fashion into his interiors that forms part of his signature style and has made him highly sought after by art collectors, fashion icons and celebrity personalities.
This project in Palm Springs, California is a little piece of mid-century greatness and feel like the happening apartment of a rock star!
The lounge is a juxtaposition of textures and times with futuristic metallic sofas against a palate of natural neutrals – sheepskin rugs, timber flooring and stone fireplace surrounds. The neon sign and silver chrome of the sofas is reminiscent of Andy Warhol’s Silver Factory. The whimsical dining room chalkboard walls allow diners to interact with the space and scribble. Maxine has incorporated pieces that normally would never sit next to one another – spanning stylistic and time periods creating some unexpected contrasts and joyous moments.
The colour story throughout is earthy yellows, whites and off whites with some taupe and pops of contemporary black to unify the spaces. Black and white, offset by bold pops of colour through contemporary art and photography throw a twist on an unexpected foundation.
