suburban Australia

Australian’s have always had a strong sense of self when it comes to their homes and we have never been afraid to be bold when it comes to design. This project, located in the Melbourne suburb of Beaumaris certainly fits this sentiment as the house sits proudly and loudly amongst its more pedestrian neighbours. The design was conceived by In2 Architecture and was born from a program that would allow the owners, a young family, to live in a house that would fit to their lifestyle – entertaining, pool time and of course alone time.

I admit that I am not a huge fan of obvious gadgetry, however the revolving TV stand between the dining area and loving room is impressive. I am also impressed with graphic black marble that turns the kitchen into a true focal point. Throughout the home, the materials and colours have been chosen to create contrast, drama at times and a sense of grounding. In all, this house, dubbed the White House, is a brilliant study in modern Australian suburban design and it is without a doubt very bold.
