the Railway Hotel Windsor
An existing iconic Melbourne hotel located in the vibrant suburb of Windsor was recently updated by MR. MITCHELL .With a fresh colour palette of cool greys and aquamarine accents of black steel, charcoal wool, crisp white walls and milk-washed timber. However the Railway Hotel still maintains its original architectural detailing from the year 1927. The geometric shapes repeated in the timber detailing of the first floor windows provided a striking reference point for a number of design elements throughout.
Hints of bright copper in the pendant lights and bar panelling and bold yellow paint detailing provide a strong juxtaposition of colour and texture. The environmental impact of the refurbishment was a key consideration for the client and design team. Wherever possible, the existing furniture was re-purposed, refurbished and recycled.
With the appointment of 2014 Young Chef of The Year finalist Simon Tarlington (from Quay, Sydney) to Head Chef, the Railway have introduced an exciting new level of dining experience in their restaurant Highline. Most of the produce used in the dishes served is sourced from the hotel owners’ farm in rural Victoria. Add that one to the list of places to dine and drink !
