CRITERIA New York to Melbourne
CRITERIA’s showroom opening in Cremorne in Melbourne in late 2014 brings an exciting new design aesthetic to Australia. Founder and director of CRITERIA Rachael Fry says, “the CRITERIA showroom aims to capture the essence of design thinking in New York.” The former New Yorker pinpoints the New York aesthetic as being “structured around progressive design, centred on experimentation, form and material and concept.”
If there’s a common bond between this eclectic mix it’s that each product is innovative and shares a particular attention to a craft. Each designer is progressive in design thinking and experiments in form, material, and aesthetic, resulting in works that are inherently unique. With products largely being handmade Criteria specialise in bespoke high-quality products.
Research of the Australian marketplace undertaken by Rachael on settling here two years ago, revealed an opportunity to share her passion for her former home city’s design culture. Scroll down for the opening night paparazzi photos.
