at the pointy end

Set in the midst of 300 olive trees in-between the Megara plain and the Gerania Mountains in Greece, the residence is set on a reclusive site. Arranged in a triangular plan, it forms a funnel to the mountain. Designed by Tense Architecture Network the fortress like home sports two courtyards, one at the southern entrance and one in-between the living spaces and the sleeping quarters organize an open-air diversion to the surrounding wilderness. The two differently scaled courtyards constitute the open spaces of the residence, inscribed in the triangular plan providing a ‘atrium-like’, space which is very Mediterranean. Two juxtaposed corridors -a glass roofed and an open-air one serve the interconnection of its open and closed spaces.
The tinted brown exposed concrete shell is inspired by the surrounding terrain and the vertical cuts open up the shell to selected views and direct the sunlight to the interior. Gasp … I simply can’t get enough!
