Pool House Perfection
Having a pool house in the first place is a bit of a luxury and if you’re going to have one, you may as well do it properly. Canadian firm +tongtong were brought on board to recreate an existing pool house with the brief that the new design be multifunctional and sleek. The end result is bang on brief with a distinctly mid-century look creating a strong horizontal narrative which is further enhanced by the large expanse of glazing. The design is perfectly suited to lounging by the pool; however it is the interiors that impress me the most.
In striving to make the new pool house as adaptable as possible, +tongtong have developed a space that is as understated as it is clever. The main public room of the house has been furnished to allow guests to laze about and relax with ottomans, a long communal table and a bright neutral finish. This space is delineated from the private side of the house by a large floating black box. The box itself contains storage and AV equipment on one side with a shower and change facilities on the other. With the addition of a small area for making coffee and a fold down bed, this quickly becomes a guest house as much as a pool house and whether I was coming out of the pool, staying as a guest or there for a cocktail party, this reimagined space would be perfect in any situation.
