self-assured Beauty
Studio Guilherme Torres is known for their self-assured and sometimes off-beat design with bright and unexpected splashes of colour and sometimes quirky furniture selections. This project, completed last year, came as somewhat of a surprise to me as the palate is toned down and neutral, the furniture understated and classic and the whole feeling refined and grown-up even.
Located in Sao Paolo Brazil, the strong use of horizontal lines in the architecture reminded me of the famed Barcelona Pavilion. The openness to the outside too is reminiscent of van der Rohe’s design; however this home is unmistakably modern in its approach and certainly fresh in its execution. What I love most about this design is the interplay between all the different finishes and textures. Despite the relatively modest size of the home, the abundance of different stones, cladding and screening doesn’t seem jarring or too fussy. Add in the wrap around water feature (such a shame this wasn’t a pool!) and this simple one bedroom pad becomes a seriously well-appointed abode.
