Design enthusiasts are in for a treat as Design Matters Melbourne International Design Week prepares to celebrate the creativity and innovation of local and international designers, showcasing the best interiors, furniture, illustrations, graphic and product designs across multiple events from 11 – 17 May.

A must for anyone with an interest in arts, culture and design, the annual week-long festival attracts an impressive and unique line-up of high profile Australian and International designs, exhibitions and events, intended to inspire and educate.

INSPIRATION BY DESIGN: WORD AND IMAGE FROM THE VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM (20 March – 14 June, FREE Exhibition)

See one of the world’s largest and finest book art, graphics and illustrations collections at the State Library Victoria, with over 100 items on display including original hand drawn illustrations by Beatrix Potter, Pablo Picasso artist books, and fashion sketches, ephemera and photography from Dior, Versace and Comme des Garcons.

AUSTRALIAN FURNITURE & DESIGN TRADE FAIR (Saturday 16 May, $43 General Admission)

Explore premium brands including Great Dane, Hermon & Hermon, Jardan, RTF, Tait, Yellow Diva and more under one roof at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre. This exclusive event is open to the public for one day only, presenting the best in Australian & International furniture, lighting, textile and interior design. Tickets are limited.

HOW PEOPLE WORK – walking tour (Wednesday 13 May 12 – 3PM, FREE – Bookings Essential) Access Melbourne’s high profile contemporary and historic workspaces including the Westpac workspace on Collins St and the Nicolas Building as part of this hosted walking tour by Geyer, a leading independent interior design practice with six studios across Asia Pacific and a focus on human-centred workplace design.

Fashion and jewelry fans will enjoy this quirky exhibition by Melbourne contemporary jeweller Anna Davern, showing her unique range of brooches, made from salvaged biscuit tins that aim to communicate cultural identity. Hosted at e.g.etal contemporary jewelry and objects a Melbourne gallery representing many of Australia’s leading contemporary jewelry designers and artists.
