Remodeled mid-century modern
Nestled on a secluded property in the Berkeley Hills of California, this mid-century modern house has been lovingly and sympathetically reimagined by YAMAMAR studio.
The project has been tackled in stages with a master plan for the house and gardens. A minimalist intent plays out in the mid-century bones of the house which allows the owners art and photography collection to provide ornamentation.
A uniquely beautiful original cast concrete fireplace which YAMAMAR restored forms the focal point of the sitting room. Glass courtyard doors and cast concrete floors are also original. The spatial typologies of the new master bedroom and ensuite bathroom, re-imagined Kitchen, Dining, Kids Bath, Powder Room, and Office spaces have been rationalised by YAMAMAR. Flow up and down the house was improved, and a new look and feel was introduced using geometric tile textures, steel fireplace accents, stained oak wood flooring, and restored double wood beams at the vaulted Living Room ceiling. A beautifully resolved and liveable family home.
