Kips Bay Decorator Show House – 2016
My favourite time of year! The 2016 Kips Bay Decorator Show House is underway in New York City and as always the range of rooms covers everything of the traditional, the whacky, the bold and the bizarre, but always inspiring. ??21 designers took part in this year’s house and each was given charge of a different room to transform into their own creation.
Victoria Hagan injected her signature clean lines, fresh palate and restrained luxury into the salon, while Sawyer | Berson opted for a bold Italian inspired petit salon with rich emerald Venetian plaster wall and a stunning gold velvet sofa. I love the whimsy of Phillip Thomas Inc.’s lady’s study with incredible green lacquered desk and colourful Cy Twombly -esque wall art.
The dining room by Alex Papacristidis Interiors is pure classicism with stunning 18th-century furniture (that table base!) and custom hand-painted wallpaper. In contrast, the guest bedroom by Olasky & Sinsteden is a calm, traditional space with soft colours and crisp bed linen.
Each year the Kips Bay Decorator Show House not only supports a worthy cause but also gives the designers a chance to go to town without client restrictions and create a space that it only limited by their imagination.
