Light and shade

This apartment south of Paris in Lyon belongs to interior designers Pierre Emmanuel Martin and Stéphane Garotin of Maison Hand.  This modern light filled apartment is the opposite of their last apartment, which was completely black. The original 1850’s details have been maintained like moulding, panelled walls and a gorgeous parquet floor.

Catching southern sun, the public spaces of this 140 square metre apartment are light filled and calm. The apartment wraps around an internal courtyard which offers views into other spaces and in a sense Martin and Garotin become their own neighbours catching glimpses into the more private spaces of the home.

The curation of textiles used and palette of materials is refined and elegant. This restraint lets their lifetime of art and objet form ornamentation, rhythm and colour. Pops of brass and ceramic forms create stunning vignettes throughout. This apartment is definitely cool, calm and collected.
