CASA IV – SPAIN

Based out of Barcelona and Saudi Arabia, Mesura Architects have designed this home extension in Elche, close to the coast in south-eastern Spain. In a complete step away from the style of the existing home, the large and expansive pavilion has been designed to take full advantage of the climate, the client’s lifestyle and the chance to design a unique building that responds harmoniously to the surrounding environment.

To me, the design is part Oscar Niemeyer and part Wes Anderson film-set yet completely contemporary and fresh. The large and expansive brick walls support the most remarkable feature of the design – the arched roof. The four gentle rolling arches work to define the four different areas within the extension – the bedroom, bathroom, living area and patio.

What I love most about this design (apart from the uber minimalism and tree growing through the roof!) is the complete transparency between the outdoors and indoors. A perfectly suited design for enjoying siestas and sangria!
