Switzerland holiday house

Designed with in the constraints of an unusual block of land, this holiday home in Switzerland is a concrete lovers dream. Wespi de Meuron Romeo Architects have created a deceptively rectangle home split over three levels and sitting within a unique polygonal shape mimicking the boundaries of the land.
Starting with a simple single-level at the street, the house falls away to reveal two more levels below. On the upper level is the main living area and kitchen and with full glass on two opposing wall, this level is flushed with light. The level below houses the bedrooms while the basement level contains the house services and cellar. The bottom two levels are unique in that although they have large glass walls, the concrete outer wall with protects them with light coming in through perforations of varying sizes. The effect is that these lower levels are moodier and more enveloping.
Throughout, one thing is consistent: the raw washed concrete finish. It is a strong feature that will darken with age over time and sets the tone for the, at time, austere interiors.
