A Very Melbourne Home
The brief given to architects Robson Rak was simple – add a contemporary wing to the existing home while at the same time updating the existing structure. The method too was simple in that they completely striped the existing home to the bones and started again. With a black canvas achieved, Robson Rak worked to ensure that every detail, though simple in form, was perfectly executed.
The architects chose a highly edited materials palate of steel, granite and timber with interest gained in varying the finish of the materials. The result is a sharp and monochromatic interior that is as graphic as it is strong and with many fixed details deleted during the renovation, the home is fresh and modern while as the same time being inviting and comfortable.
I think if Melbourne were to be expressed in an interior, this home would be it – smart, well-dressed and very handsome.
