A sunburst in Paris
The entry to Stéphanie Coutas’ Parisian apartment has an art collector’s soul and a rebel’s touch with materiality. The family home overlooking the Place des États-Unis in the 16th arrondissement in Paris expresses the designers passion for collecting, creating, and arranging beautiful things.
Transforming an almost warren-like arrangement of tiny rooms to make best use of its high ceilings and the light from large, south-facing windows was the first order of business.
The massive sunburst double doors are crafted with precision and care by artisan Yann Jallu from stone marquetry. The hallway inside is adorned with hammered white bronze door pulls. Some serious bling! Her original rug design ‘Tai Ping’ add texture and softness to the oak floors throughout.
Shallow Art Deco–inspired ceiling mouldings link the gallery and living room, and they play off the expansive crystal chandelier that Coutas designed for Baccarat. In the dining room, the mouldings are more traditional, evoking the era of Baron Haussmann, the prominent Paris architect of the 19th century.
Stéphanie Coutas’ family home is an exploration of materiality and the breadth of her creative eye. Layered, considered and glamorous.
