celebrated history

Combining the history of the existing 1930s former shoe factory in London with that of the clients was the task given to APA. Drawn to the expansive window and space, the clients wanted something that celebrated the history of the building and also the unique design elements and textures.

To achieve this, APA developed a program which opened up all windows by containing services and storage into a central metal cube. The inspiration for the metal cube itself came from the old metal fire doors in the apartment. Each side of the cube serves a different function – laundry, reading, kitchen and living.

I love grey, however the thought of an all grey apartment does scare me somewhat. The triumph for this apartment (which I DO love) is that the architects have used grey and applied it to a strong and well edited range of materials and textures ensuring the end result is a highly-personal and extremely handsome home for the client.
