Californian Cool

I cannot deny that I am a lover of tone and tone for interiors (I can’t quite admit to it being a love of beige on beige!). I am a strong believer in the interest and excitement that can be created through the use of different materials and proportions, so this project by LA-based designer, Jamie Bush, has me excited.

Bush is known for his expertise in creating seriously well-edited and luxe interiors, especially in mid-century homes so when the owners of this 70s pad on the bluffs on Malibu wanted to transform the house from drab to something spectacular they know exactly who to call.

With the architecture taken care of by Modal Design, Bush set out early on the design to create an interior that was, as he puts it, an ‘ethereal, sun-kissed natural palette that echoed the environment around it.’ Through the use of bleached timbers, silver travertine and furnishings that are relaxed with hints of texture – sisal, cork, fur – Bush has created the perfect interior to reflect the chilled-out lifestyle of California’s golden coast.
