Raucous Rowhouse
This 1850’s Italianate townhouse by legendary architect James Renwick Jr. and whose previous occupants include Hollywood turned fashion royalty – Mary-Kate Olsen and Olivier Sarkozy is the stunning home of Laure Heriard Dubreuil, her husband Aaron Young and their young son.
Dubreuil, who herself is in the fashion game and from a notable French cognac family enlisted the help of Chris Osvai. His eye for detail and vintage results in a home that is eclectic and tailored. The layout of the East Village rowhouse features a double parlour on the main floor, a terraced garden, eight marble fireplaces, and original wood floors throughout. A spine like staircase runs the 5 stories of the home at some 60 steps!
Colour is used fearlessly yet with restraint. For the garden-level kitchen, a flower-shaped 1960s dining table and matching chairs by Giuseppe Raimondi were reupholstered in lipstick-red and pink vinyl. I love to peer inside peoples closets and here Heriard Dubreuil’s substantial one is sheathed in an array of cheerful vintage wallpaper remnants, with each shelf lined in a different pattern.
