East Meets West
When two different firms came together to create this apartment located in Shenzhen, China, the result is a perfectly balance family home that is as much a traditional Chinese home as it is a home for a Western lifestyle.
Designed by Minas Kosmidis Architecture in Concept from Greece and YuQiang and Partners Interior Design from China, the narrative of the home is characterised by the use of natural materials and colours and the strong lines of the joinery. Timber panelling, bronze details and soft stucco walls work together to provide a masculine background for the minimal yet comfortable furniture.
I love that above all else, the cultural traditions were not only catered for, but also celebrated. Nowhere is this more evident than with the tearoom, an important part of any Chinese home.
Framed by a steel and glass “screen,” the room is a harmonious blend of Chinese culture and Western aesthetic.
