New York Cocoon

A clear brief always results in amazing interiors and this masculine pad is no exception! With a client that requested the feel of Tom Ford and Halston with the concept of a nook and a cocoon, Messana O’Rorke turned this 1960’s NYC apartment into a sleek residence for entertaining. Located in Chelsea, the apartment was designed with a dramatic palette of rich black and greys that are carried through each room to create a cohesive interior.

Rationalising the circulation by removing walls to create an open floor plan that flows between each space typologies. The floor was made from a reclaimed oak fence that was stained dark and laid out in a chevron pattern. The walls are painted in three shades of grey and the cabinets are lacquered in black, which reflects light and the city views. Dynamic “Jurassic” stone speaks to the flow of the city.
