Wide Open – Torquay, Victoria
With a definite and strong brief in mind, the owners of this home in Torquay on Victoria’s coast approached Lachlan Shepherd Architects to make their dream a reality. The couple (and their dog) wanted a space to house not only themselves but also regular guest and, as the architect explains, to have “people to walk in and say/think “holy f***…”
As a true entertainer’s home, the main living, dining and kitchen areas are all open and connected. The space is anchored to the expansive terrace by the impressive plunge pool. The paired back materials palate is punctuated by moments of fun – the copper fireplace with sunken lounge and THAT sliding door. On the first floor, each of the guest rooms have been set up as small hotel rooms so guests “can “check-in” to their own space before moving into the main living zones of the house.” A strong design with a hint of humour – it’s a yes from me!
