An Investigative Designer – revisited
The Connecticut home of Victoria’s Secret model Hana Soukupová and her business magnate husband Drew Aaron is the stuff of designer legend – a showcase for the duo’s extensive collection of contemporary art, which includes works by Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, and Jean-Michel Basquiat, not to mention an array of extraordinary midcentury furnishings by such masters as Jean Royère and Charlotte Perriand.
The man for the job was Mark Cunningham who honed his eye at Ralph Lauren and whom they had met some years earlier when he transformed their Manhattan apartment, a far cry from their 100-year-old brick-and-limestone residence in Greenwich, Connecticut, called North Court.
The home, while expansive, still has an inviting, human and intimate feel. This has been preservation as much as restoration and reinvention. Cunningham has salvaged mouldings and made aesthetic and architectural decisions based on how the house was built – with a dash of creative license.
This home while glamorous in parts works so well for this family because Cunningham investigates his clients, understanding how they live their lives and what they think about space.
