L shaped residence
Nestled amongst old growth oak trees in California’s Carmel Valley, this home by Sagan Piechota Architecture seeks to capture the surrounding valley and create a sense of harmony between house and nature. Entering the house via a set of stairs that pass under the house, the materials palate of concrete, cedar and weathered steel carry on the tones and textures of the valley while also setting the scene for a calm and refined home.
Internally, floor to ceiling windows help to frame views to the landscape from almost every room and as the architect puts is the L shaped residence settles naturally into the contours of the rolling hills…” I love the strong linear narrative of the design and especially love the understated and sharp joinery throughout. To me, all the best sensibilities of classic Californian mid-century design has been used to create a contemporary home perfectly connected to its location and moreover laid-back indoor/outdoor living.
