On Cloud Nine

The hours spent detailing a project, working out how to hide what ought to be hidden and highlight would should be celebrated, creating the right sense of harmony and proportion obvious to a designer and subconsciously enjoyed by the layman – are what make a project special. This project, located in the exclusive Paris suburb of Saint Cloud and completed by Tristan Auer is special.

The renovation of this home brings together the client’s eclectic art collection and found objects, recycled building materials and a refined sensibility to match the lush location. From the beginning, the original architectural narrative of the building was retained and restored meticulously to provide a backdrop to the custom joinery and fixtures which cross somewhere between the Belle Époque, Art Deco and Mid-Century movements. On top of this, the furniture is a mix of flea market finds, vintage pieces and custom designs coupled with moments of whimsy such as the hand-painted mural in the dressing room.

Project such as this – detailed, subtle, a touch of the unexpected and everything exceptional – make my design heart sing.
