Modernist English Manor

This country residence by Richard Meier and Partners has been created based on three guiding principles: response to the site, a connection with the history, and a move toward sustainability. The setting of this Oxfordshire Residence is notable not only for the incredible views and the expansiveness of the landscape but also the relationship between openness and compression, and light and shade, revealed by the surrounding site.

It would also be impossible to conceive a residence in this part of the United Kingdom without considering the typology of the “English Manor House”. This design embraces many of the principles behind this idealised Oxfordshire home: this is a family home which honours the woodlands and topography creating spaces for comfortable living. The design seeks to integrate the landscape and views as part of its identity, bringing a natural balance between building and landscape.
