Old Jaffa House – Israel

We love the work of Pitsou Kedem here at Design Addicts. Over the years we have featured many of their projects from grand soaring mansions to sleek modern homes. This project, set in Jaffa, the ancient port city of Tel-Aviv, Israel, falls into their realm of historic restoration.

Faced with an apartment that had, over the years, been modified, added to and generally bastardised, Pitsou Kedem’s first task was to strip the interior of all erroneous details and additions to expose the original architectural form. Continuing on from this, the designers worked to open up every interior space to ensure that the amazing sea view was viewable from all parts of the apartment. As the architects puts it, “The newly integrated spaces are not closed with doors, but left open – allowing views to the sea from each one of them. Hence, in the absence of a hallway they serve both their designed function and for passing through.”

Typical of Pitsou Kedem’s work, materiality and texture form the base of the interiors palate and in this cave like space the result is a calm and relaxed magic.
